We all know exercise is good for us and an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. For this reason, we try our best to stay active no matter how busy we are. But it’s not always easy.
If you like to keep fit by going to the gym regularly you will know that feeling when sometimes you are just not in the mood to hit the gym before or after your work. You may be too tired, strapped for time, or just slightly de-motivated. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t exercise at all on that day. There are other ways of keeping active without going to the gym. And who doesn’t like a bit of change from time to time?
So what should you do when you really don’t feel like going to the gym ? Here are some ideas for you:
Do the housework
If you come home feeling a little bit guilty because you didn’t go to the gym but you still want to do something why not doing some housework?
It may not be the most enjoyable workout but doing the housework is certainly a form of exercise (you are moving after all!) especially if you focus on chores that require a little bit more energy. Just think vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing or polishing. They all count! If you do any of this you will still be active, just in a different way.
Do a short workout at home
Getting to the gym, changing into your gym clothes, showering and getting home all takes time. Sometimes it’s just the thought of doing all this that may put you off.
So, sometimes when you are not in a mood for the gym but still happy to do some kind of workout, a home workout is an answer. And it doesn’t have to be long.
Exercises which you could easily do at home are lunges, squats, plank, bridge, sit-ups, exercises with a band and if you feel like it some push-ups. If you find it hard to create some kind of structured workout without any equipment, just turn to Youtube for some ideas.
Remember, a short workout is better than no workout at all.
Go for a walk
So you cannot be bothered to go to the gym but can you go for a brisk walk instead? Aim for at least 30 minutes to consume more calories and improve your energy.
The best time to go for a walk could be straight after your work or during lunch hour. Choose a time slot which works best for you.
Do some outdoor activities
If the weather is nice there are so many things you can do outside that will get you moving. If you own a bike, why not going for a short ride around your neighbourhood? If you have a garden, maybe it’s time to do some digging? What about trampolining and rope skipping? Being active doesn’t have to be boring so think outside the box!
If you are really really tired just relax at home. If you are less active one day, the world is not going to end and maybe your body needs some rest anyway so why not have it? There’s still the following day when you can choose to be more active. Sometimes it’s ok not to worry too much about your exercise regime and just relax. One day won’t make too much difference.
